OUR STORY
Farmers, Kyle and Kristi, met in 2011, while in college at the University of Maine at Fort Kent.
Kyle grew up on a family farm in central Maine. His education includes an undergraduate degree in environmental science, with a focus in plant ecology. He went on to receive his graduate degree in sustainable food systems. Kyle has always had a love for growing plants and undertaking big projects that need organization and structure.

Kristi’s educational background is in nursing. She became a traveling nurse, and with Kyle, built out a van that the couple called home for two years. While traveling, Kyle and Kristi lived and worked on an array of small scale farms across the country. This is when Kristi’s interest in farming truly began. Kristi is a nurturer and has a passion for stewardship of the land and community resiliency.

The couple returned to their home state of Maine, and purchased the farm in 2017.

WHAT WE OFFER
Our farm sits on 86 acres of land, nestled on the edge of Carlton Pond Preserve in Troy, Maine. We believe in working with nature, to grow crops and choose practices with an ecological approach.
Currently, we focus on vegetable production, particularly, storage and root crops as we build up essential farm infrastructure, systems, and soil health. We are intentionally growing our farm slowly to minimize debt because we believe this approach will protect the longevity of our farm.
As food lovers, we respect the unique tastes that different cultivars offer the consumer. We select varieties to showcase the broad flavors that each crop has to offer.
As the farm expands, so too, will our offerings to the community, including fruits from our orchard that will be entering maturity in coming years. We plan to add livestock husbandry into our operations to offer animal products as well as increase our access to trusted, fertile compost. We also plan on adding more protected culture to extend our growing season and give more control over our crops in a time of increasing climate challenges. Other future visions for the farm include walking trails, and a certified kitchen, and farm events. We built a barn in 2023, which will house our wash and pack station as well as cold storage, helping us to provide the freshest vegetables to our community.
You can find our products seasonally, at our farmstand located at 711 Detroit Road, Troy, Maine. We are open Fridays and Saturdays, June through October, 8am-6pm.
Our offerings include beans, broccoli, beets, carrots, cabbage, cucumbers, corn, cauliflower, peppers, eggplant, leafy greens, onions, peas, garlic, potatoes, radishes, melons, summer squash, winter squash, tomatoes, turnips, cut flowers, herbs and more.

Minimum Tillage and Other Soil Improving Practices
At Wild Edge Farm, we prioritize the health of our soil through conscious practices. We use minimum tillage to reduce soil disturbance, promote root development, and maintain soil structure and microbiology.
We also prioritize crop rotation and cover cropping to ensure long-term soil health. Our cover crops not only act as green manure, enriching the soil with essential nutrients, but also help to control pests and weeds. This approach contributes to the vitality of our crops and ultimately, to your health and well-being.
